Gary Holden

After teaching in secondary schools for 20 years, as a teacher and Deputy Headteacher, I worked as a local authority senior adviser for three years, supporting senior leadership teams in school self-evaluation and preparation for OfSTED inspections. My LA role also included a cross county responsibility for research and development, in which a particular focus was working with schools to develop innovative approaches to student voice. I also led a two year project on reducing within school variation in collaboration with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT). I have extensive experience of supporting teachers in undertaking school-based inquiry, and I have been a tutor and examiner on masters programmes at the University of Cambridge for five years. I taught on a number of M.Ed courses and was also a member of the Leadership for Learning (LfL) team. Currently, I am Headteacher of a secondary school in Medway.

My doctoral research focussed on the impact of teacher-led inquiry on pupil learning, teacher learning and school improvement.

My current research interests lie in the areas of:

* Teacher leadership
* Leadership and management
* School Self-evaluation
* Improvement networks
* Student consultation and participation
