EdD Communities
Students will belong to one of four EdD Communities. The research methods strand will bring students from the four Communities together in order that expertise within the Faculty can be shared.
The EdD Communities which students will be grouped into are:
1. Psychological Aspects of Learning
The Pyschological Aspects of Learning community brings together staff from the Psychology and Education Academic Group with doctoral students interested in topics such as but not limited to motivation, self-regulated learning, classroom dialogue, collaborative learning, cognitive development and the learning sciences. EdD students within the community may be interested in the psychological aspects learners bring to classroom contexts, the psychological processes involved in learning in classroom contexts and the implementation of pedagogical strategies / innovations that are informed by knowledge of the aforementioned aspects and processes.
2. Well-being and Inclusion
The Well-being and Inclusion community brings together staff from the Education, Equality and Diversity Academic Group with doctoral students interested in exploring innovative methodologies through which schools can develop strategies to raise the achievement of all children, whilst safeguarding the inclusion of those who may be more likely to experience marginalisation. EdD students within the community may be interested in exploring issues around special educational needs, disability, class, ethnicity or well-being.
3. Education in Science and Mathematics
The Education in Science and Mathematics community brings together staff from the Science Technology and Mathematics in Education Academic Group with doctoral students seeking to combine intellectual curiosity, rigour and originality with a focus on the teaching and learning of Science or Mathematics.
4. Research for School Improvement
The Research for school Improvement community will be supported by staff from the Leadership for Learning and Pedagogy, Language, Arts and Culture in Education Academic Groups. EdD students will be encouraged to undertake research that responds to issues and questions about teaching and learning identified by themselves, their schools and local authorities. It may be appropriate, for example, for projects to be linked to wider school improvement initiatives and development priorities.
