students learningFunding Opportunities

Please Note: As a new Doctorate, there is limited funding for the EdD. It is highly unlikely that the below funders will be willing to offer funding for an EdD, but it may be worth contacting them directly to enquire if your particular case may be an exception.

Funding for Home and EU Students: Studentships

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) offers grants to full-time UK applicants and to EU nationals who have been resident in the UK for 3 years immediately preceding the date of an award, to cover tuition and college fees together with a maintenance grant. Part-time students and candidates from EU countries other than the UK are eligible for fees-only studentships.

It is essential that candidates wishing to apply for an ESRC studentship submit their application for the MPhil in Educational Research or PhD by 13th January 2012 at the very latest.

The Faculty will be holding a workshop on the ESRC application process and the drafting of a research proposal on 2nd February at 17:00.

If you would like to attend the workshop or would like further information about applying for ESRC funding, please email er206@cam.ac.uk

Funding for Overseas Students

A wide range of funding is available in the University for overseas graduate students, including scholarships and part-cost bursaries. In particular, we would draw your attention to the Gates and Cambridge Trusts.

Information can be found on the Board of Graduate Studies website.

Some scholarships are attached to particular countries, others to specific areas of study. Bursaries, offering a partial contribution towards the costs of your studies, are normally held in conjunction with awards from sources other than the Trusts.

Other studentships and bursaries for overseas students include the Cambridge International Scholarships, the Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards and the Smuts Memorial Fund bursary.

A useful source of information about graduate funding opportunities in the University is the Cambridge University Reporter, Special Issue No. 6.

Please note that many of the deadlines for scholarships and bursaries are very early, so you are strongly encouraged to explore the opportunities open to you as soon as possible.

You will automatically be considered for financial aid offered by the Cambridge Trusts, provided you have filled in the appropriate section of your Graduate Admission and Scholarship Application Form (GRADSAF) and have submitted your application by the appropriate deadline.
