Application Procedure
Please note if you are a PGCE student at the Faculty wishing to register for the second year of the MEd, you need to refer to the registration procedure linked to here and not to the more lengthy application procedure set out below.
Applications for the part time MEd are made through the Faculty and not through the University's central admissions office. There is only one intake per year.
Overseas applicants should be aware that it can be difficult to obtain a visa for part time study. This is not a distance learning programme. Students are required to attend the Faculty for one afternoon a week throughout university term times, or at set times throughout terms for the blended learning routes. Please note: Under the UK government's immigration policy, our part-time postgraduate courses are not eligible for a Tier 4 adult student visa. Therefore, we are unable to sponsor potential students to make Tier 4 visa applications for this part-time course.
The application pack and guidance can be downloaded here:
Completed application forms for the part time MEd should be sent to:
MEd Admissions, University of Cambridge, Faculty of Education, 184 Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 8PQ
Application Deadlines
Applications for October 2012 entry will be welcomed at any stage of the academic year until the end of June. This deadline is for full applications including all supporting documents. Partial applications submitted on the deadline may not be accepted. Please note that conditional offers are made throughout the year and that therefore routes may fill up ahead of the advertised closing date. It is in your interests to apply as soon as possible.
Interviews and submission of written work
Once the Faculty has received your application we will contact you via email if we require any further documentation or examples of written work. If you are living in the UK, you will be called for an interview. Depending on which route you have applied to, the Faculty may contact you and ask you to submit a 1,500 word research proposal. If this is required, please download the following guidance.
Availability of Routes
The Faculty of Education intends to offer all of the routes on the graduate programme as advertised and will make conditional offers on this basis. In the light of unforeseen circumstances where recruitment levels make the route non-viable the Faculty reserves the right to withdraw routes and offers.
Deferring entry
If you fail to take up your offer of a place, it will be withdrawn. However, if you wish to reapply the following year, you may not need to make a fresh application, just email graduate@educ.ac.uk
Applicants with Disabilities & Equal Opportunities Policy
The Faculty welcomes applications from students with disabilities or chronic illnesses and treats them on the same academic grounds as those from other candidates. The Faculty is committed to equal opportunities for all. It aims to ensure that no present or prospective student receives less favourable treatment than another on grounds of any condition or status not directly affecting study or work.
Complaints Procedure
The Faculty cannot give reasons for not offering admission, nor advise you how to improve your application. However, if you believe that there has been an administrative error, or if you believe you have been treated unfairly because of bias or prejudice, or if there are circumstances unknown to the Faculty that might have affected the decision, you should write to the Secretary of the Degree Committee within three weeks of obtaining the letter notifying you of the outcome, setting out your reasons. Please note, however, that there is no appeal against academic judgements made by the University.
Data Protection Act 1988
The University has a legal requirement to collect certain information (including ethnicity and disability information if you choose to provide this), which will be sent to the Higher Education Statistics Agency. Information is used in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1988. For further information please see the HESA Fair Processing Notice.
