Why did you decide to become a teacher and why did you choose Cambridge to do your PGCE?

'One of my main inspirations for becoming a teacher was through working with children on summer playschemes. I found helping young people to develop skills in arts and crafts very rewarding and opened my eyes to the idea of a career in education. I applied to Cambridge because the Design and Technology course really stood out from other providers, it had a progressive rationale, is backed by excellent research and offered training from 11-18.'

Have you changed career in order to do your teacher training?

'My degree was in architecture, however I did not enjoy it practising as a designer enough to pursue it as a career so after graduating I took a year out to travel and apply to do teacher training - a career which would combine my design skills and desire to work with children.'

Any brief comments about the PGCE so far?

'The PGCE is a tough course with a heavy workload, but there is a lot of support and as long as you are committed to teaching it is an extremely enjoyable and rewarding experience.'
