Education Subject Studies - the BA Tripos in Education at Cambridge

Within the Education Tripos, the study of education is currently offered in combination with the following specialist subjects: Biological Sciences; Classics; English; English with Drama; Geography; History; Modern and Medieval Languages (French, Spanish or German); Music; Physical Sciences (Physics or Chemistry); and Religious Studies. Within each combination, choice in the number of education papers and subject papers taken across the Tripos is flexible.

In addition to papers in education, you can choose papers in your specialist subject from the relevant Faculty or Department in each of the three years of the degree. These papers are effectively ‘borrowed’ from another Tripos. For each of the subject combinations listed above, there is a specified schedule of these so-called ‘borrowed’ papers available for Education students to take. The system of borrowing enriches and diversifies the learning experiences of Education students who, whilst pursuing their studies in education, mix with and are taught alongside other students following single honours in their discipline both in College and in lecture courses and supervisions. Education students take the same examinations set for the Tripos from which their subject specialist papers have been borrowed. Some papers in the English and English with Drama routes are not borrowed, but are provided within the Faculty of Education itself.
