Cambridge Journal of Education

The CJE began publication in 1971. Its editors were based at Cambridge Institute of Education and its constituent colleges, Cambridge University Department of Education, and the Centre for Applied Research in Education at UEA.

As the product of teacher education institutions CJE reflected a resurgence of academic research at a time of significant educational growth and change. Precedents included journals launched by several of the new University Institutes of Education, and BJES in the late 1940s and early '50s. Other initiatives in the late 1960s and early '70s included the Oxford Review of Education and BERJ.

In the case of CJE and university research journals generally, what has been their function, their significance in disseminating education research, their influence on policy and practice? What is their continuing and future role?

These questions are the topic for discussion led by short papers from early editors including David Bridges, John Beck and John Elliott.

Wine, fruit juice and nibbles.
