How early relationships affect child development.
Sue Gerhardt described how early relationships affect brain development, with lasting consequences for mental health. Using video clips and clinical vignettes, the workshop explored some of the implications for teachers and psychotherapists working with both children and adults.
Sue Gerhardt is a practising psychoanalytic psychotherapist. Educated at Newnham College, Cambridge, she worked in community work and in documentary film-making before becoming a psychotherapist. In 1998, she co-founded the Oxford Parent Infant Project (OXPIP), a charity providing psychotherapeutic help to parents and babies.
