A Taste for Transactional Analysis

DATE: Saturday 20 January 2007 (10.00 am - 12.30 pm)

VENUE: Faculty of Education, 184 Hills Road, Cambridge

SPEAKER: Giles Barrow

Giles Barrow presented a series of ideas taken from Transactional Analysis (TA), a psycho-dynamic based approach based on the work of Eric Berne and which has an increasing interest for educators. The session covered the underpinning principles of TA and a radical model for understanding and promoting emotional development.

The workshop included a presentation, conversations and time for reflection that were relevant to all professionals working with children, young people and parents. Whilst the focus was on those working in an educational context, the material had a universal dimension that could be applied to a diverse range of professional contexts.

Giles Barrow is a qualified teacher with experience in both mainstream and specialist provision. Much of his career has been in establishing and leading support services for schools in the area of special educational needs, including provision for children excluded from schools. Giles is also qualified as a trainer and supervisor in Transactional Analysis in the field of education. His work is increasingly focused on the relational aspects of teaching and learning and the potential of learning to transform individuals, groups and communities. Giles has written widely on the application of TA in schools, the most recent publication being Walking the Talk, (ed. Barrow & Newton, Fulton, 2004).

The fee for this event, which included coffee, was £20 for Cambridge Forum members, £30 for non-members.
