Emotional Well-being in Schools

This session is organised by Cambridge Forum for Children's Emotional Well-being. It will explore current conceptions of emotional well-being and policy developments. This will include:

  • What is emotional well-being?
  • What does it mean for children in schools?
  • What is the role of the teacher?

Colleen McLaughlin is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Education. She has taught in secondary schools and worked as an advisor in a local education authority. At the Faculty she teachers, writes, researches and consults on counselling and personal, social, emotional development and well-being. She edits the journal Pastoral Care in Education. She has been involved as an advisor to government and NGOs on the personal and social dimensions of schooling. She has researched care and counselling in schools, positive alternatives to school exclusion, bystander behaviour in bullying and how universities can work in partnership with schools to generate useful educational knowledge. Recent publications include: Reframing Personal, Social and Emotional Education: Agency, Participation and Dialogue (2005), and Preparation for Adult Life - Connecting the Personal, Social and Cognitive Worlds of Young People. A Key Goal for Education in the 21st Century (2005) for QCA.

The fee for this event, which includes coffee, is £20 for Cambridge Forum members, £30 for non-members. Please include your cheque with your application - cheques made payable to "University of Cambridge" and crossed a/c payee - or an invoice can be issued if requested
