Reading for Learning: why reading fiction is crucial for children’s cognitive, emotional and social development.
Saturday 13th May 2017
09:30 to 16:00
Recent findings within brain research show that reading, in particular reading fiction, is beneficial for children's cognitive, emotional and social development.
This conference will include talks by Professor Maria Nikolajeva on reading for learning, Dr Zoe Jaques on reading animals, Dr Aneesh Barai on nature in Disney, and will finish with a hands-on workshop on using picturebooks in the classroom. It will offer practitioners persuasive evidence of fiction reading as a powerful means to enhance young people's understanding of the world, society, human relationships, selfhood and ethics.
