Funding for Home and EU Students: Studentships

+3 and 1+3 Studentships

The Faculty of Education at Cambridge is a leading international centre for research, with particular strengths in: school development, leadership and improvement; education in languages, arts and humanities; inequalities in education; psychology and neuroscience; history of education; language and literacy; teacher development at primary and secondary levels; educational uses of ICT; and maths and science education.

Studentships are available for candidates whose research interests are in these main areas of activitity. A research studentship at Cambridge will allow you to work closely with international experts in their field and be part of an active and fast-developing research comminity.

In 2008-9 we will have 4 studentships available; 3 funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and 1 by the Faculty. The studentships are for 3-4 years and cover fees and a subsistence grant. To be eligible you need to be a citizen of the EU and have at least an Upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.

If you would like to be sent further information about these studentships and about how to apply for one for October 2009 please email Emma Rixon er206@cam.ac.uk .

Other sources of funding

Information about other forms of financial aid for home and EU students can be found on the Board of Graduate Studies website.

Funding for Overseas Students

A wide range of funding is available in the University for overseas graduate students, including scholarships and part-cost bursaries. In particular, we would draw your attention to the Gates and Cambridge Trusts.

Some scholarships are attached to particular countries, others to specific areas of study. Bursaries, offering a partial contribution towards the costs of your studies, are normally held in conjunction with awards from sources other than the Trusts.

Other studentships and bursaries for overseas students include the Cambridge International Scholarships, the Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards and the Smuts Memorial Fund bursary.

A useful source of information about graduate funding opportunities in the University is the Cambridge University Reporter, Special Issue No. 6.

Please note that many of the deadlines for scholarships and bursaries are very early, so you are strongly encouraged to explore the opportunities open to you as soon as possible.

You will automatically be considered for financial aid offered by the Cambridge Trusts, provided you have filled in the appropriate section of your Graduate Admission and Scholarship Application Form (GRADSAF) and have submitted your application by the appropriate deadline.
