ESRC Quota Studentships

The Economic and Social Research Council, the UK's leading agency for research and training in social and economic issues, is the main source of publicly funded support for Master's and PhD students in Education. Eligibility for ESRC studentships is restricted to UK and EU applicants only.

The ESRC requires all PhD students to have successfully completed an ESRC recognised research training course. If you have not already completed such a course, you must follow the Faculty's ESRC recognised MPhil/MEd in Educational Research before embarking on a PhD. The ESRC funds linked MPhil/PhD awards (1+3); for those that need to follow this course. 3 year PhD-only studentships (+3) are available for candidates who have already completed the necessary training. Either route can be followed on a part time basis.

Full-time UK studentships cover tuition (and college) fees together with maintenance grants. Full-time EU nationals who have been resident in the UK for 3 years immediately preceding the date of an award are also eligible for a full studentship. Part-time students and candidates from EU countries other then the UK are eligible for fees-only studentships.

Dr Dominic Wyse and Dr Darleen Opfer are holding a training workshop in the Faculty on 7th February, 5pm-7pm, on how to write an application to the ESRC. If you would like to attend, or would like to be sent information about how to apply for an ESRC studentship for October 2008 please email Emma Rixon er206@cam.ac.uk .
