Information for visitors

The Faculty Library is open to visitors for reference use only and we ask that you introduce yourself at the Issue & Enquiry Desk and sign the visitors' book. Whilst using the Library, please help us to keep it a pleasant and quiet place to study by ensuring that:

  • Food & drink, including bottles of water, are not taken into the Library
  • Large bags & rucksacks are left on the designated shelves at the Library entrance next to the Issue Desk - small handbags and laptop bags may be taken into the study areas
  • Mobile phones are switched off
  • Noise is kept to a minimum in the Library

Information for members of the Faculty & University

If you are a member of the Faculty of Education or the University of Cambridge you may register with the Library and borrow material. Please complete a membership form available from the Issue & Enquiry Desk and make sure that you read the Library regulations before you sign the form.

Please ensure that all material you wish to borrow is charged to your Library Card at the Issue & Enquiry Desk and stamped with the correct date for return.

If you notice that a book has been defaced in pencil or pen please inform a member of Library Staff before you borrow the item, otherwise you may be held responsible for the damage.

  • Reserving books

If you wish to read a book which is on loan to another person, please complete a white request form available from the Issue & Enquiry Desk, or telephone or email the Library with your request: library@educ.ac.uk. The requested item will then be recalled from the reader who has it out on loan.

  • Recalled books

All loan periods are subject to recall.

A book can be recalled at any time during your loan period, including vacations, regardless of the return date stamped in your book. You will then have to return the book to the Library by the new return date given in the recall letter or e-mail.

If you fail to return a recalled book by the new return date given in the recall letter or email, it will become overdue and your Library record will be blocked.

  • Overdue books

We would like all our readers to use the Library in a considerate way and to renew or return their books before they fall overdue.

If you do not return or renew your material on time, your Library record will be blocked and you will not be able to borrow any other material or place any requests until all overdue items are returned.
