Library stock

The curriculum subject areas of the Library, for example mathematics (510), are divided into the general teaching of the subject (510/7), primary level (510/72), followed by secondary level (510/73).

All types of material on a subject are brought together in one area but in different coloured sequences. White-labelled books are shelved first, followed by yellow and then green. Green-labelled items are usually magazines. Items labelled in yellow are indicated on the Newton Catalogue by the term Educational Resource in the Location line above the classmark.

White labels Theoretical texts
Yellow labels Educational resource material
Green labels Reference use only
Blue labels Children’s fiction
