Profile

Panayiotis Antoniou is a Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership and Evaluation and a member of the Educational Leadership, Policy, Evaluation and Change (ELPEC) Academic Group at the Faculty of Education. He is also the coordinator of the MPhil/ MEd in Educational Research (EdRes) and an Official Fellow of Darwin College. He received his MPhil from the University of Cambridge (British Chevening Scholarship and Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholar) and his PhD from the University of Cyprus (first prize and scholarship from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and Distinguished Research Award from the Cyprus Educational Administration Society).

His research interests are in educational leadership, educational effectiveness and improvement at the teacher, school and system levels. He is also interested in teacher professional development and has been involved in research projects related with human resource management in education and teacher and school evaluation. One main strand of his research agenda is the development and the investigation of the effectiveness and the sustainability of the effects of a newly proposed teacher professional development approach, namely the Dynamic Integrated Approach (DIA), which merges research on teacher training and on teacher effectiveness. 

As far as his research experience, he participated in many international research projects. Among others, he has been involved in the ISTOF project, conducted in 21 countries (funded by the International Congress on School Effectiveness and School Improvement - ICSEI), and was the director and co-director of several research projects funded by the Independent Schools Victoria in Australia, European Science Foundation (ESF), the European Parliament (Daphne III), the Erasmus+, the Eurydice Network, the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation etc.He also acted as a consultant to the government of Cyprus for the development of a new evaluation system for primary and secondary school teachers and schools.  He has also been involved in the training of newly promoted deputy heads and school principals of primary and secondary schools. He was a member of the Organizing and Scientific Committees of several international conferences such as the International Congress on School Effectiveness and Improvement annual conference (ICSEI) in 2011 and the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management annual conference (CCEAM) in 2012 .

He also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for several journals, including among others,  the School Effectiveness and School Improvement, British Educational Research Journal, Teaching and Teacher Education, Educational Research and Evaluation, Asia Pacific Education Review, Educational Assessment, Measurement and Accountability, British Journal of Educational Psychology, School Leadership and Management, African Journal of Business Management, International Journal of Educational Research etc.
