Profile

Toni taught for about 20 years in comprehensive schools and taught part time at Homerton College in the late 60's. Toni joined the University Department of Education, as it then was, in 1987 to set up a new PGCE programme and the STIMULUS Peer Assisted Learning Project http://stimulus.maths.org which is still very successful. In 1996 she set up the NRICH Project http://nrich.maths.org in partnership with the Royal Institution and ran a pilot in Norfolk, and in 1997 the Motivate Project http://motivate.maths.org. Since then these projects have gone from strength to strength as part of the Millennium Mathematics Project for which the University won the Queen's Anniversity prize for Higher Education in 2006. Toni now works part time in the Faculty mainly developing resources for A level students and their teachers. She also works as a volunteer in South Africa organising and running residential professional development courses for teachers from historically disadvantaged communities. Colleagues from around the world join Toni as volunteers to teach on these courses. Toni also set up, and tries to raise more funds for, an outreach programme to schools, http://aimssec.aims.ac.za, modelled on the MMP and based at The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences http://aims.ac.za.
