John Beck taught mainly in the areas of Sociology of Education and Professional Studies on undergraduate and Masters courses, as well as supervising and examining doctoral students. His main research interests include: citizenship and citizenship education; social theory and social policy within the sociology of education - with particular reference to theorizations of late-postmodern society, professions and professionalization, and work on the continuing relevance of the work of Basil Bernstein.
