Profile
Prior to working as a teaching associate and latterly as a research associate in the Faculty, Anne was a head of department, with 20 years experience of teaching Physics and Electronics in 11-18 secondary schools. While teaching, she undertook a part-time Masters degree in Science Education, with her thesis focusing on electronics and gender. She undertook her PhD looking at organisational structures from a cultural perspective, in response to her experiences in schools.
Research Topics
Research experience and interests: Her PhD research looking in-depth at organisational structure in schools developing as learning communities, subsequently led to her involvement with the Spotlighting School Autonomy project. This project, led by Professor Peter Gronn and Ciaran Sugrue, is investigating the impact of New Public Management on the lived reality of schools. In addition, she has worked with Sara Hennessey, Rosemary Deaney and Mark Dawes researching the use of the T-MEDIA resource as part of a professional development activity by and for Mathematics teacher, and been involved, under the Aegis of Sue Brindley, with the CamSTAR network of schools who share the research of their own practice at regularly scheduled conferences.
She continues to be interested in Science and Mathematics education (particularly the work of Z. P. Dienes) as well as schools as organisations, teacher development and policy on professionalism.
