Profile
Pamela has taught in Primary and Secondary schools in Australia, USA and England. Before joining the University of Cambridge in 2000, she worked at Reading University, UK (1996-2000) and at Griffith University, Australia (1994-1996). She contributes to the preparation and development of educational researchers, pre-service teachers and undergraduate courses and researches issues of creativity in relation to creative learning and teaching. Her focus is creativity research with a particular interest in children's musical creativity as composers, notators, and improvisers. She is co-editor of the International Journal of Music Education, an Associate Editor of Psychology of Music and serves on eight other editorial boards including the British Journal of Music Education, Thinking Skills and Creativity, Artistic and Creative Education, and Music, Technology and Education. She publishes widely on creativity. Most recently, she has served as Section Editor of the Creativity Section in the International Handbook on Research in Arts Education (Kluwer, 2006), co-editor of Reflective Practice in Arts Education (Kluwer, 2006) and as guest editor of a special edition on Creativity in Education for the Cambridge Journal of Education, 36(2), September 2006. She is currently co-convener of BERA: Creativity SIG, an appointed member of the Executive Committee to the elected Board of Directors of the International Society for Music Education and a Trustee of Cambridge, Curiosity and Imagination (CCI).

2006 'Promoting Social Inclusion in Music Education' (PROSiME) A cross-cultural, cross-institutional EU funded small-scale project involving Dr. Gabriel Rusinek, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Dr. Frits Evelein, Rotterdams Conservatorium, Netherlands and Dr Eva Sæther Malmö Academy of Music, Sweden.
2005 'Documenting Possibility Thinking'. This creativity research involved Cambridge-Open University matched funding with Professor Anna Craft, University of Exeter and Professor Teresa Cremin, Canterbury Christchurch University.
2002 'Teacher-pupil perspectives on musical learning at KS3' a one-year Faculty funded collaborative project, involving cross-regional school-partnerships at the University of Cambridge and the University of Exeter.
2001 'Changes in adolescent pupil attitudes to 'school music' (at ages 12 and 16). This Faculty funded project provided the opportunity to: (a) plan a follow up in depth study in response to the NFER (2000) report Arts education in secondary schools: effects and effectiveness; and (b) collect longitudinal data.
2000 'Music teacher career paths' a Faculty funded study of critical phases and factors that influence why teachers become primary or secondary music specialists.
