Profile
Dr Megan Crawford is a member of the Leadership for Learning academic group in the Faculty of Education. Megan’s teaching and research within the educational leadership field encompasses the areas of professional development e.g. leadership preparation, culture, and emotion and leadership, as well as school governance, e-learning development in HE, and assessment. She co-directed the evaluation of the London Leadership Strategy, and the evaluation of the NPQH Pilot (both for the National College), and was a member of the Staff Development Outcomes Project team. She is on the national committee on school governance for the Education and Employers Taskforce, and has set up a specialist research group on school governance with Prof Chris James from the University of Bath. Current research activity includes the ongoing International Study of the Preparation of Principals Project (ISPP); the effects of academies and free schools policy on local governance of education; and sustainability and educational leadership.
Megan is an Associate Editor of the international, ISI indexed journal ‘Educational Management, Administration and Leadership’ and is on the Editorial Board of’ Primary 3-13’. She was formerly Deputy Editor of ‘School Leadership and Management’. Megan is very involved in governing Schools, and was the Teaching Awards Governor of the Year, East of England, in 2009/10. She has been a governor of five schools, and is Chair of Governors at Oakgrove School, Milton Keynes. She was on the Board of Governors of the IOE, London and Oxford Brookes University. Her work in Higher Education builds on these current experiences as well as previous experiences as a teacher and leader in primary education.

Prospective PhD Applications
Megan would welcome informal contact from prospective PhD or EdD students on any of the research topics mentioned above. She teaches on the Masters and doctoral programmes, and has worked extensively on the professional doctorate in previous posts. She particularly enjoys working with doctoral students. Previous doctoral students have completed theses in the areas of:

- Culture in a multi campus university
- Leadership for equity and excellence in Cyprus
- Primary professional development needs
- The notion of resilience as applied to older teachers
