Profile

Richard Hickman is a Fellow of Homerton College where he was also Director of Studies for Art History and Dean (2009). He taught in a number of schools over a thirteen year period and has been involved in the education and training of teachers since 1985 - previously at the University of Reading and the National Institute of Education in Singapore.

He is a practising painter and fine artist [large file], having exhibited in Europe, Asia and Australasia, with five large solo exhibitions.

His academic interests lie within three broad areas of visual and aesthetic education: philosophical - the nature and purpose of art and design in education; cultural - intercultural aspects of visual education; psychological - the nature of the creative process and aesthetic development.

PGCE (art & design secondary); MPhil in Arts Culture and Education.  He is currently supervising PhD students involved in research in several aspects of visual art in education, across both primary and secondary phases and adult education.
