Profile
Ros taught secondary mathematics and psychology for a number of years before joining the Faculty. From 2000 to 2004, Ros worked on the high profile DfES-funded research project 'Raising Boys' Achievement', as part of a team of colleagues in the Faculty directed by Mike Younger and Molly Warrington. During this time she also finished her PhD focusing on achievement motivation, which specifically concerned the role of motivation in explaining the cognitive acceleration effects of a particular science intervention programme (CASE). Since 2005 she has worked with Bill Nicholl on a Gatsby funded project looking at creativity within secondary Design and Technology Education. She was appointed Lecturer in Teacher Education & Development / Pedagogical Innovation in 2007. She is now working on a number of different projects (see below) focusing on creativity, student wellbeing, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and student engagement.
Ros enjoys working collaboratively with schools to develop and refine strategies that make a real difference to teaching and learning in the classroom. She generally employs a mixed methodology to evaluate the success of this work, gathering quantitative and qualitative data. She has experience of using a variety of software packages to assist analysis including SPSS (quantitative analysis), and Atlas-ti and NVivo (qualitative analysis). She reviews for a number of journals and is on the editorial board of Gender & Education.
