Profile
Caroline Oliver joined the Faculty of Education in 2006 as a Research Associate, having worked previously as a lecturer in Sociology and Social Anthropology in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (2002-2005). She gained her doctorate in 2002 in Sociology and Social Anthropology at Hull University based an ethnographic analysis of retirement migration, which has recently been developed into a monograph. She is currently working on an evaluation of the Cambridge Bursary Scheme, and previously worked on a DfES-funded national project on the status of teachers and the teaching profession.

- Sociological and anthropological approaches to identities and identity-transitions (with particular reference to migration, life course and professional identities)
- The status of teachers and the teaching profession
- Widening participation in higher education and the impact of financial assistance to the recruitment, experience and subsequent lives of students
- Qualitative research including ethnography, narrative and life-histories
