Funding and Fees
Tuition Fees
PGCE trainees are required to pay variable or 'top-up' tuition fees. Tuition fees for Home and EU PGCE students will be £3,145 for 2008-09 and is expected to rise in line with other undergraduate tuition fees.
UK Home students are eligible to apply for a student loan to cover the full costs of their tuition fees. Home students are also eligible for a maintenance grant of £1,260 which is non-means tested and to apply for a further £1,575 means tested grant.
UK Home students must apply through their LEA for the student loan to cover their fees and other financial support. Fee payments will be made to your College by the Student Loan Company. Application for tuition fee payment should be made as early as possible after an offer of a PGCE place has been made. All Home students must apply for an LEA assessment in order to confirm their Home student status and so be eligible for a TDA training bursary. This assessment is required even of no student loan application is to be made.
EU students are eligible to apply for a student loan to cover the full costs of their tuition fees. The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) will process applications for support from students from EU countries. Early application is recommended.
Students from overseas (non EU countries) are not usually eligible for tuition fee support, although those resident in the UK for more than 3 years prior to starting the course, should check with their LEA. PGCE tuition fees for overseas students are in the region of £12,219 and we strongly recommend that overseas students contact their prospective college in order to discuss fee arrangements.
In addition students from overseas are not eligible to receive reimbursement for their transport costs.
