Early Years & Primary Professional Studies

The Professional Studies course focuses on aspects of teaching and learning which apply across the curriculum. Cross-curricular aspects of statutory curriculum documentation that are not addressed by subject specific courses are encompassed within this course. Some issues such as planning and assessment will be addressed within this course in a generic way, with particular attention given to the principles behind practice, while curriculum courses will look at these aspects of teaching in more specific subject-based contexts. The wider role of the teacher, including the implications of the Children Act 2004, 'Every Child Matters', is considered at different points in the course. The content and timing of the course are designed to support trainees in their progressively more demanding roles on teaching placements.
