Chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, metallurgy, earth sciences - teacher training PGCE at Cambridge

The 11-18 chemistry specialist component enables students to teach National Curriculum science to key stage 4 (11-16) and chemistry as a specialism at Advanced level (16-18).

The chemistry course concentrates on the development of a wide range of skills required for teaching chemistry/science up to A level. There is an emphasis on participation, planning and practical work. The course includes the management of laboratory-based lessons, techniques of assessment, work with new technology and how to organise extra curricular chemistry sessions.

Workshops and lectures specific to chemistry are run by Elaine Wilson and other expert chemistry teachers from partner schools.

Who comes on the course?

The chemistry specialist route is available to graduates whose degree course included Chemistry (e.g. chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, metallurgy, earth sciences). Here are the new Chemistry teachers who qualified in July 2008.
