A 60 hour course for teachers and 'middle leaders' wishing to develop their leadership skills and understanding while working on an aspect of school improvement. It provides an ideal introduction for anyone considering the MEd in Educational Leadership and School Improvement.
This course takes place on 6 Tuesdays during the spring and summer term. It provides a framework of support, reflection and development for teachers engaged in some aspect of leadership and school improvement. Participants will be guided through a process of learning and leadership in which reflection, action and critical friendship are interwoven. They will:
- clarify their improvement aim;
- negotiate with others on ways to achieve it;
- learn about leadership and school improvement issues in order to further their development;
- reflect upon their own learning and leadership;
- engage in critical friendship as a means of support;
- work on an aspect of improvement in their school;
- develop their leadership skills.
The course provides opportunities for participants to develop their leadership skills and understanding while working on specific improvements in their schools. It also provides materials and frameworks that can be used to support other leadership and school improvement activities.
Accreditation: The course may be taken on a free-standing basis leading to the award of a Certificate of Further Professional Study (CFPS). Alternatively, if you are currently studying or wish to enrol for an Advanced Diploma in Educational Studies (ADES) you may count this as one of your units. (For full information on the requirements please contact the PPD Office)
All participants will be expected to attend regularly (a minimum of 80%) and to complete a related assignment to the satisfaction of the course tutor.
