Advanced Diploma in Educational Studies (ADES)
After study at CFPS level, participants can apply to continue their studies into the Advanced Diploma in Educational Studies (ADES). Progression opportunities enable participants to move:
- either into modules providing opportunities for accreditation (subject to the submission of written work achieving passes against the relevant criteria) at either ADES or Masters levels;
- or into completion routes that retain the practice-focused and professionally relevant characteristics of the Advanced Diploma by involving further study at CFPS level and the completion of an ACER.
The study requirements of the ADES are as follows:
Masters/Advanced Diploma route:
The Masters/Advanced Diploma route involves:
- completion of 60 hours and 4,000 words of study assessed at Certificate of Further Professional Study level;
- interview and registration for the completion of a Masters degree;
- completion of two Year 1 Masters modules, each with 6,000 words of written work assessed at either Advanced Diploma or Masters levels.
Participants whose Year 1 Masters module work is successfully assessed against Faculty MEd/MPhil criteria can choose either to proceed into Year 2 of the Masters and the thesis or to accept an Advanced Diploma. Participants whose Year 1 Masters module work is assessed at Advanced Diploma level will have completed the requirements for the Advanced Diploma but will not, at this stage, be entitled to proceed into Year 2 of the Masters.
Advanced Diploma only route:
The Advanced Diploma only route involves:
- completion of 60 hours and 4,000 words of study assessed at Certificate of Further Professional Study level;
- interview and registration for the completion of the Advanced Diploma in Educational Studies;
- completion of a further 60 hours and 4,000 words of study assessed at Certificate of Further Professional Study level;
- completion of an Advanced Certificate in Educational Research (ACER) with the submission of a report of 10,000 to 12,000 words assessed at Advanced Diploma level.
The study completed after registration for the Advanced Diploma in this route is commensurate with the Diploma/Masters route in terms of hours of study and quantity of written work. This route emphasises the value of the Advanced Diploma as a practice-focused and professionally-relevant qualification completed through independent workplace-based enquiry and will enable some participants to follow a more finely graded pathway to study at higher levels.
