Web Publishing Options for Staff
POLICY WP004
Policy Date: December 2006
This policy describes the options available to Faculty staff for publishing web material relating to their work in the Faculty.
Courses
- Pages are maintained on the main Faculty website for all courses, containing material geared towards prospective students. This material is typically maintained by course administrators in consultation with course leaders.
- Academic staff who wish to publish material to students, relating to their own courses are advised to use the Faculty’s VLE, CamTools (see policy WP006 for further details).
Personal
- A Profile page is maintained for each member of academic staff, on the main Faculty website. These pages are currently maintained by the Faculty web team, in liaison with individual staff members, and with the Research Office Secretary, who provides new staff members with proforma to gather the relevant information.
- Staff who wish to maintain a personal web presence may do so through the University’s PWF service. The PWF service incorporates a Personal Web Page Server. Staff may publish pages on this server by placing them in their U:\public_html\ directory, when logged in to the PWF. These are published at http://people.pwf.cam.ac.uk/spqr1 where “spqr1” is the CRSid of the individual. Personal websites may be linked from a staff member’s Profile page.
Academic Groups
- Groups of academic staff at the Faculty publish web material relating to their common interest. This material is collated by the Group secretary and updated by the Faculty Web Team.
