Entry Requirements

The standard offer for the Education Tripos is AAA at A level (or its equivalent) in line with all other Cambridge degrees. All students are required to be studying their specialist subject as one of these A levels.

Further to this:

  • For English and Drama the required subject at A level is English Literature or English Language & Literature. Individuals do not have to be studying Drama or Theatre Studies.
  • For Mathematics some colleges may require both Maths and Further Maths at A level, depending on school provision
  • For Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences some colleges may ask that you have two from the following subjects at A level, Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemisty, including whichever you wish to focus on.

Other than these specific requirements, colleges welcome applicants with any combination of A levels.

Students studying for qualifications other than A level e.g. Scottish Highers, the International Baccalaureate, American High School Diploma etc. should contact individual college admissions offices.

For additional advice about general requirements for entry, qualifications and offers please see the university's entrance requirements.

Application Procedure

To apply to Cambridge, you will need to submit an application to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (www.ucas.ac.uk/apply/). Once received, your application will be forwarded to a Cambridge College for consideration.

In the past all applicants to Cambridge were asked to submit a Cambridge Application Form in addition to a UCAS application. It is planned that applicants from the UK and EU for 2009 entry (or deferred entry in 2010) will only need to submit a UCAS application in order to apply to Cambridge. For more information about this change please see the University's frequently asked questions.

If you are applying from outside the EU, you will need to submit a Cambridge Overseas Application Form (COAF) in addition to your UCAS application. The COAF together with comprehensive instructions is available from any Cambridge College, the Cambridge Admissions Office, and as a PDF download below.

Please remember that the deadline for the UCAS application (and the Cambridge Overseas Application Form where appropriate) is the 15 October 2008. There is an earlier deadline for applicants wishing to be interviewed overseas and a later deadline for mature applicants studying on one year courses.

For more information on the admissions procedure at Cambridge, please see the online prospectus.
