Artemio is a Research Associate in the Leaders in Teaching initiative working at the Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre. Leaders in Teaching is a longitudinal study of quality education improvement in secondary education in Rwanda. In this project, Artemio has conducted quantitative data analyses of teacher engagement with remote learning during lockdowns due to the pandemic and opportunities for continuous professional development during the school closures and once schools reopened.

Before joining the Faculty of Education, he earned experience in various mixed-methods studies. For instance, he collaborated on two research projects for UNESCO, one concerning education in contexts in crisis and one regarding Decolonising Education for Sustainable Futures. He has also researched Digital Inequalities in Southwest England in a project funded by the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute. He has also designed, implemented, analysed, and published data concerning educational inequalities and remote learning during COVID-19. His research interests include initial teacher education, teacher evaluation systems, continuing professional development, and education reform more broadly.

Artemio has over 10 years of teaching experience in primary, secondary and higher education in the UK and Mexico. He has mainly taught units on initial teacher education, assessment in education, international and comparative education, research methods, and decolonising the curriculum. He also has experience in consultancy work. His most recent assignment at the Secretariat of Education in Mexico involved generating remote education strategies for primary school teachers.
