Profile
Monique Beckett is an alumna of the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling program and the Transforming Practice MEd at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. Monique currently serves as a Research Assistant within the Faculty of Education, working on a project that recently secured university funding to highlight the value of therapeutically using video games, such as Minecraft.
Monique is a UKCP-accredited and registered BACP Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic counsellor, holding a PGDip. She completed her MEd at the University of Cambridge with a thesis titled: "Using Minecraft to build psychotherapeutic relationships: heuristic inquiry into my psychotherapy practice with a latency age child." From this, Monique is involved in a wide range of therapeutic work with supporting families, adults, and young people, as well as exploring new technology ideas for use in therapy.
As a Senior Clinician at Atrium Clinic, Monique incorporates the use of Minecraft and other video games as therapeutic tools within Cambridge school settings to deliver engaging and therapy sessions. Additionally, Monique has been involved with the Tetris project, where she researched the application of Tetris as a tool to aid families and young individuals in their journey of growth and development.
Furthermore, Monique is a Mentor at the University of Cambridge, where she supports young people, particularly neurodivergent students, by providing tailored assistance to foster their academic and personal growth.

The research aimed to understand Minecraft's impact on the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client, demonstrating its efficacy as a therapeutic tool that enables therapists to engage with clients in a non-intrusive manner and create a valuable space for exploring therapeutic outcomes. This research is currently in the process of being prepared for publication.
