Profile

Vivien is a Link Lecturer at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. She has contributed to the Faculty’s work for over 20 years, as a mentor, a Professional Tutor and teaching on the secondary PGCE course.

Vivien enjoyed a successful career as a classroom teacher at two of the Faculty’s partnership secondary comprehensive schools. She was appointed to a number of pastoral and academic leadership positions including Head of Science and Deputy Principal.

As a senior leader, Vivien was responsible for the quality of teaching and learning which included staff professional development, performance management and the leadership of NQT and ITE training. Her work in schools was characterised by a strongly academic and evidence-based approach to school improvement. She led a thriving Teaching and Learning Development Group, from which numerous school improvement projects, research initiatives and policies were developed. She successfully secured grants for a variety of improvement programmes and was invited to share her work with colleagues, including speaking at the SSAT’s National Headteachers’ Conference.

Vivien was a school’s Ofsted inspector for a number of years, giving her a rich experience of a range of schools’ practices and insight into the characteristics of effective education. She is called upon by school leaders as a consultant for quality assurance and programme development. She has particular expertise in Safeguarding and subject specialism in science education.

Having served as a governor of an outstanding secondary city school, Vivien is now a member of the governing body of an outstanding rural primary school. This gives her a good understanding of education across both primary and secondary sectors.
