  • Teaching and learning in order to develop pupils (upper primary and lower and upper secondary) problem solving.
  • Growth and fixed mindsets and mastery in mathematics.

I have worked for the following schools and organisations:

Cambridge International Examinations

I have delivered professional on problem solving and inquiry-based learning in Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Maths Hubs

Cambridge Maths Hub (Comberton Village College, Cambridge)

As well as leading professional development workgroups, I act as consultant and adviser on the Hubs strategic management group. I participate on the strategic board, and advise on research and evaluation. I am currently

I have presented professional development and advised on workgroups relating to growth mindsets, problem solving and the evaluation of professional development.

North Mids and Peaks Maths Hubs (Painsley Catholic College, Cheadle, Stoke on Trent)

I presented three day-long professional development sessions with teachers from primary and secondary schools. The sessions were aimed at developing understanding of mindsets and mastery, pupil motivation and problem solving. Participants carried out small action research projects between sessions.

I am providing advice and consultancy on the Maths Hub national project on developing reasoning.

Heartlands Academy (Birmingham)

I worked with Heartlands (part of the E-Act group of academies) in developing sustainable CPD systems for mathematics teachers and for teachers more generally. My associate at Heartlands and I are working with partner schools to pilot a Social Cognitive Theory based approach to professional development. I am keen to hear from other schools and academy chains who might be interested in this development work. I would also be happy to discuss with potential research students who might be interested in researching mathematics teachers' professional learning.

Isleham CofE Primary School (Ely) and St Andrews CofEPrimary (Soham)

I presented a half-day inset on growth and fixed mindsets to the entire staff in both schools.
