Cambridge-China Education Project (C-CEP)
Project One: primary mathematics
Project Two: creativity
Funded by the Education Departments of Beijing, this suite of Projects is concerned with both developing practice, and researching in a number of pedagogical and subject areas in primary and secondary schools in Beijing. At a recent visit to Beijing, the two PIs, Professor Geoff Hayward and Dr Sue Brindley met with officials and academics from the Beijing District Education departments and the Beijing Institute of Education in order to discuss joint projects. A day was then spent meeting with Headteachers and visiting primary and secondary schools meeting teachers and students.
The Faculty of Education recently hosted a return visit from colleagues in the Beijing Institute of Education to discuss a joint research project exploring pedagogical practices in primary mathematics, where Professor Kenneth Ruthven and Lynne McClure from Cambridge Mathematics Project and latterly NRICH spoke to the participants. This Project is now being developed.
Two conferences are planned in Beijing in October, organised by Cambridge and hosted by Beijing, which will focus on the next project looking at creativity in the classroom. This will lead to both PPD opportunity and funded research projects.
