Notice of Hills Road roadworks: 12 May 2008 until further notice

The four buildings we occupy on campus are the main Faculty Building, the Mary Allan Building, Trumpington House and the Science Education Centre. The main reception is in the Faculty Building, entered from Harrison Drive off Hills Road. The city of Cambridge is in the south east of England, 50 miles north of London. It is well served by road and rail links, and is within an easy distance of the major London airports, particularly Stansted.

Access for Disabled Users:

The Faculty Building and Mary Allen Building are fully wheelchair accessible. For access to Trumpington House, and to the Science Education Centre contact Reception 01223 767600. Travel

By car - and a note about parking

  • North - A1 to A14 (A604)
  • East - A14
  • South/west - M25, M11 (exit junction 12) or A1 to A10.
  • From the north, west and east, take the A14 until its junction with the M11. Head south on the M11 and come off at Junction 11. At the roundabout, bear left into Cambridge, passing through Trumpington. Following signs to Addenbrookes Hospital, turn right onto Long Road. At the junction between Long Road and Hills Road, turn left. The Faculty of Education is approximately 1 mile up Hills Road on your left, in Harrison Drive (by pedestrian traffic lights) which is the turning after, Luard Road.
  • From the south, take the M11 and come off at Junction 11 (where the A10 also arrives from the south west). At the roundabout, bear right (or straight on if you have come on the A10) into Cambridge, passing through Trumpington. Following signs to Addenbrookes Hospital, turn right onto Long Road. At the junction between Long Road and Hills Road, turn left. The Faculty of Education is in Harrison Drive approximately 1 mile up Hills Road, on your left.
  • For exact route details print-outs launch 'Multimap' (type the postcode CB2 8PQ into the postcode field in the top left-hand corner).
  • Regarding parking, please telephone reception in advance, 01223 767600, (or make arrangements with your existing staff contact in Faculty), if you are expecting a parking place, as provision is limited. Disabled parking bays are situated close to each of the Faculty's buildings. There are five outside the new Faculty building and one outside both Trumpington House and the Mary Allen Building. Anyone requiring a permit to use one of these bays, should contact Anita Chapman, [ac207@cam.ac.uk] or tel: 01223 (7)67727.

Park and ride

  • Our local park and ride site, 'Babraham Road' (01223 243287) , is about 2 miles South West from us, down Hills Road and on the A1307. See also miniature inset on our local map. Buses leave every 10 minutes from the park site (7.05am-8.03pm). The service costs £2.20 for a return ticket and to park all day. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the stop at Hills Road Sixth Form College, almost next door to the Faculty, nearer to town. The service only stops at the Homerton bus stop up to 10.30am on the way into town and from 15.15 on the way out of town.

By Bus

  • The Faculty is in Harrison Drive off Hills Road and is on the C1, C4, Uni4, 7 and 13 bus routes. For timetable links of local bus services please go to our bus routes page.   • May 2008, until further notice,Hills Road Roadworks:
    Temporary diversion of the Uni4 bus service* - Southbound services to Addenbrooke's will be diverted along Trumpington Road, Long Road and Robinson Way. Northbound services from Addenbrooke's will continue on the normal route along Hills Road and Brooklands Avenue. Staff and students travelling to Homerton College and the Faculty of Education will still be able to travel on the Uni4 for a 50p single fare (on presentation of a valid University Card) from west and central Cambridge, via the diverted route and the Addenbrooke's site, as long as the journey is not broken. The same arrangement applies on the Uni4 service to other stops on Hills Road and Brooklands Avenue, which will not be served by a southbound service during the temporary diversion.
    *NOTE: The Uni4 bus service will be diverted from noon on 19 June 2009 as Robinson Way will be closed. The service will continue on Long Road towards the Addenbrooke's Bus Station.
    This diversion will also be required from mid July to the end of August.
  • Changes to Emmanuel Street 21 May 2008: As part of the Council's ongoing changes to Cambridge City Centre there are major changes to Emmanuel Street, Drummer Street and St Andrews Street bus interchange. Should you have any questions about the changes please contact Cambridge Projects on 01223 814498. http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/ where a revised map and interchange table are available.

By Train

  • There are frequent trains to Cambridge from London (King's Cross and Liverpool Street stations). Direct express trains run from London Kings Cross every 30 minutes and take 48 minutes. From the north, connections are usually made via Peterborough or Ely.   • Cambridge railway station is in Station Road (see location on University map). It's an easy 15-20 minute walk south, down Hills Road, from Cambridge railway station to the Faculty of Education. Alternatively, a taxi will cost you just a few pounds or you can take any bus going along Hills Road to Addenbrookes Hospital and get off just after the railway bridge.

By Air

  • Stansted Airport (08700 000303) is the nearest to Cambridge, being about 30 miles south. Luton Airport is fairly close, and Heathrow approximately 1 hr 30 mins. Express Train services from Stansted Airport to Cambridge take 45 mins and information can be found by following the 'To and from our Airport' link on the Stansted Airport home page. Book with National Express Coaches online after checking their regular services from Stansted, Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Tickets can be purchased on board the coach. National Express coaches (telephone: 08705 80 80 80) also run daily services from Cambridge to most airports in the UK.

By Coach

  • National Express run regular services nationwide to and from Cambridge, Drummer Street/Parkside, which are in the City Centre. The Faculty is about a mile directly south of Drummer Street and local buses numbers C1 and 7 stop near to the Faculty on Hills Road.

By Taxi
