Courses: Study Opportunities for Prospective Students

The Faculty offers a wide range of high quality courses in a variety of different levels of study: from undergraduate through to doctoral level programmes. There is an extensive choice of subject specialisms on offer as well as a focus on education as a discipline.
All courses are taught by staff who are nationally and internationally recognised as experts in their field. Courses appeal to full-time and part-time students, to international and UK-based applicants, and to practitioners in schools and other professions. External evaluations and student evaluations consistently attest to outstanding teaching and high levels of student satisfaction.
Here is an overview detailing the courses we have to offer:
Undergraduate
The Education Tripos (BA) is acknowledged as the best undergraduate degree in Education in both the Guardian and Complete University Guides. The degree is rated highly by our current students.
Postgraduate Certificate in Education
The 2011 Ofsted inspection of our Early Years / Primary and Secondary PGCE initial teacher education / training (ITET) provision concluded that the course was outstanding on every one of the 22 inspection criteria. Uniquely, no recommendations for consideration, or further action, were made. This is a remarkable outcome - and testimony to the quality of the partnership between the Faculty and local schools.
Graduate Degrees
Our graduate courses are flexible and extensive, combining theory and research - and for many students are integrated with their professional practice. They are also aimed at anyone who wishes to follow a professional interest in education:
- Master of Philosophy - MPhil (full-time)
- Master in Education - MEd (part-time)
- Doctor of Philosophy - PhD (full-time & part-time)
- Doctor of Education - EdD (part-time only)
Practitioner Professional Development
Each term we run a variety of different professional development courses, both through our Faculty based programme of PPD and CPD choices and through our Partnerships with Local Authorities.
Counselling
The Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling Training at the Faculty of Education is accredited by both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the United Kingdom Association for Psychotherapeutic Counsellors
