Ahlan Arabic School

Ahlan! Arabic provides Arabic language classes for children and parents in Cambridge. Ahlan in Arabic means ‘hello’ and reflects our friendly, inclusive culture and non-political, non-religious nature. We provide a fun and stimulating environment with a focus on communicating in spoken Arabic, and providing opportunities for Arabic-speaking families to socialise and create lasting friendships and connections.

We offer a baby and toddler (0-3y) class for singing, reading stories and playing games in Arabic, followed by our children’s (4+) class for developing our conversational skills in Arabic using games, storytelling, drama, and a range of other activities. We also learn reading and writing, with a tailored course to suit a variety of ages and language abilities. Finally we have a parents’ class, for parents to learn or improve their spoken, conversational Arabic, as well as reading and writing in Arabic.

Ahlan! was founded and is run by Saussan Khalil, Arabic Lector in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, Cambridge University. Saussan is a qualified and experienced Arabic as a foreign language teacher with a particular interest in teaching and learning spoken Arabic.
