De Vaarboom Dutch School

De Vaarboom Dutch school was established in February 2010 in Cambridge and is still going strong. During term time, the school offers primary school Dutch language and cultural lessons from 9:30 to 12:45 at the Queen Emma school in Cherry Hinton in Cambridge. Secondary school students have online lessons on Thursday evenings from 17:45 to 18:45 and get together in person once a month at the Queen Emma school on a Saturday afternoon from 13:30 to 15:30.

De Vaarboom is open to students who have reasonable oral capability in Dutch and where at least one of the parents speaks Dutch at home. We aim that students that move to the Netherlands or Belgium are able to stream into Dutch education. The students are divided into age groups and are taught by Dutch teachers who make use of modern teaching methods. The school population is typically between 35-45 students, with 4 qualified teachers and 2 TAs.

The school is supervised by the Dutch national education body (NOB) and meets all the requirements - evidenced by the school passing a recent school inspection. This enables the school to receive per-student subsidies that help keep the costs down for parents.
