Profile

Manzoorul Abedin had taught English Linguistics and English as a second/foreign language to university students in Bangladesh for more than six years before he came to Cambridge in 2008 for an MPhil in Educational Leadership and School Improvement. He is currently studying for a PhD, and his thesis is titled “Malfeasance, absence, silence: Exploring English language education in Bangladesh from a critical policy sociology perspective”. Exploratory and explanatory in nature, the study aims to understand the complex dynamics of the English education sector in Bangladesh and argues for taking a policy sociology perspective for its investigation employing multiple perspectives to data collection and analysis.

Recent Projects:

Worked as research assistant with Professor Christine Howe for the project on a systematic review of research on classroom dialogue.

Worked as research assistant in the “Impact of creative partnerships and similar initiatives on student wellbeing” project with Dr Ros McLellan to assist in questionnaire processing.

Worked as research assistant with Dr Nidhi Singal (sn241@cam.ac.uk) to assist in the research work “Pathways of Hope: voices of young people with disabilities and their reflections on education” under The Disability, Education and Poverty Project (DEPP) focusing on understanding the lives of young people with disabilities living in poverty in four countries – Ghana, Kenya, India and Pakistan.

Worked as research assistant with Dr Sara Hennessy to update and edit literature review for a project titled “Uses of information and communications technology (ICT) in primary and secondary schools in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA)” funded by a DelPHE grant from the UK Department for International Development (DFID), IED-EA and the Centre for Commonwealth Education at University of Cambridge.
