Great Dunmow Primary

Great Dunmow Primary

Great Dunmow Primary School first opened its doors to pupils in September 2006, when staff and children from Great Dunmow Infant School moved from their old site in Rosemary Lane to the new, purpose built primary school situated not far away, off Stortford Road. Since then, we have already seen the children who began in Reception at the ‘new’ school take a seven year journey, leaving us well prepared and ready to embark on the next phase in their lives, making a flying start into secondary education.

We promote a school ethos of respect and responsibility - for ourselves, each other and our learning, whereby the happiness, enjoyment and well-being of the children is paramount. Our teaching approach is one of encouragement, challenge and discovery and provides our pupils with not only a wide curricular knowledge, but the social and emotional skills - as well as the positive attitude - needed for life. Inspired by Pie Corbett in the interactive teaching of literacy across the school, we have seen the children’s enjoyment and resulting enthusiasm for writing becoming a feature of their development from year to year.
Enjoying a learning environment which is bright and stimulating, yet calm and purposeful, enables our pupils to maximise their potential. Working as a team, we support and encourage each other as well as the children, enabling them to realise their own strengths and goals.
Our involvement as part of the SUPER group research initiative is an exciting new venture – an opportunity to work closely with our fellow Dunmow Consortium schools to further develop our provision of excellent teaching and learning.
