Les Petits Caméléons, French school in Cambridge

In September 2013 the French school “Les Petits Caméléons” started offering several options for learning French to young Francophones in Cambridge and the surrounding area. Being part of the association FLAM (French as mother tongue), “Les Petits Caméléons” caters for children of which at least one parent is Francophone, or for children who had already been schooled in a French speaking country. Since November 2015 “Les Petits Caméléons” has been registered as a charity with the UK Charity Commission.

The mission of “Les Petits Caméléons” is twofold: first, teaching the French language in speaking, reading and writing as well as linguistic skills; second, conveying cultural knowledge and all aspects of French culture. Both are provided by different programmes such as discovering of the language and discovery of the world.

We have several classes which are divided into different stages:

  • Initial learning, from 4 years old
  • Fundamental learning, from 6 years old
  • Consolidation stage, from 9 years old
  • Enhanced stage, from 12 years old.

The programmes are available to children as soon as they enter the reception class. Lessons take place on Saturday morning between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. during school periods.

In addition to the teaching objective, “Les Petits Caméléons” is also a community of parents and teachers linking French speaking families in and around Cambridge. To that end social events are organised several times a year such as the Christmas Fete, or the Fete at the end of the school year.
