Physical Sciences (Physics or Chemistry)

Education at Cambridge undergraduate BA degree in education and physical sciences

The Physical Science papers are taken from the Natural Science Tripos which is the largest undergraduate course within the university. This course offers the opportunity for those who enjoyed studying the physical sciences, particularly chemistry and physics, at A level to continue studying these two subjects at undergraduate level or to broaden their interests into other physical sciences.

Preliminary Examination to Part I

In the first year you will study Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry.

Part I

In the second year there are a number of different options. If you wish you can continue to specialise in Physics or Chemistry. If you prefer a broad based physical sciences degree then you can either take whichever subject you did not take in the first year, and/or can take papers in Earth Sciences and Materials Sciences.

Part II

In your final year all of the above papers are offered at Part II, in addition there you can take papers in Advanced Physics, Geological Sciences, Mineral Sciences (2010-11 only), Materials Science  and the History and Philosophy of Science. This provides a wide range of options which allows you to follow your interests, either by specialisation or by taking up new subjects.
