Course Content: Education

The Education Papers are taught by the Faculty of Education with a focus on the study of the disciplines of Education (Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology and History of Education). There are also opportunities to take multi-disciplinary papers which focus on key issues in Education such as language and communication or global perspectives on education.
Preliminary Examination to Part I
In the first year you will have an Introduction to the Foundation Disciplines of Education through the study of themes such as childhood and adolescence, or equality and diversity. You will also study Language, Communication and Literacy.
Part I
In the second year you will continue to study the Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology and History of Education in the two compulsory papers. You may also choose a paper on Modernity, Globalisation and Education.
Part II
In your final year you will conduct a piece of Research on a topic in Education, which will lead to an 8,000-10,000 word dissertation. You must also take a minimum of two further education papers, at least one of which must be Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology or History of Education. Other options in Education include papers such as Children and Literature, and Education, Diversity and Human Rights. Any additional papers you choose to study in education can come from any of those on offer.
