Prospective Doctoral Students

Research Students

We welcome applications from prospective doctoral students wanting to research in mathematics education. MERG doctoral students are part of a vibrant academic community that contributes to advances in research, theory, and practice in mathematics education internationally and at all levels of education.

MERG doctoral students are full participants of all MERG activities, including our Research Seminars with external speakers and the less formal Work-in-Progress Sessions where MERG staff and graduate students get formative feedback on their current work in a supportive and critically constructive environment. MERG doctoral students have opportunities to interact and engage in discussions with the whole membership of MERG, but currently only the following MERG academic staff can formally supervise doctoral students:

It is rather common for these MERG academic staff to co-supervise doctoral students with other academic staff in the Faculty. Co-supervision arrangements depend on the student’s research topic (e.g., whether it combines mathematics education with another field of study such as psychology or science education). Prospective doctoral students typically initiate co-supervision arrangements at the stage of application to the doctoral programme.

Prospective doctoral students are encouraged to view the profiles of academic staff members for their specific areas of interest and to send any informal queries directly to potential supervisors. Please view information about the projects conducted currently by some MERG doctoral students.

The Faculty’s doctoral programme website offers general information about the application procedure, funding opportunities, deadlines, etc.
