ERI: Countries - Oman

Courtyard in Oman

In collaboration with Cambridge University Press, staff from ERI is working to assess and evaluate the impact of new school textbooks in Oman. The first step involved a baseline study of maths and science textbooks currently used in primary schools across the country. For this, the team visited six schools and carried out interviews and student, teacher and parent focus groups to conduct mini case-studies. This was followed by a survey of teachers' opinions about the textbooks. The project will conclude with a follow up visit after the introduction of the new textbooks to access the impact they had.

The new textbooks are used to amend the curriculum in school and the research is part of a wider task to evaluate the impact of introducing a new curriculum through textbooks.
