Co-operative schools

Co-operative Schools

Co-operative Schools are a new and dynamic sector of state education in England. As a result of extraordinarily rapid growth in recent years there are now over 1000 schools in England that ascribe to Co-operative values and principles. We were struck by the similarities between these values and principles and those of the Leadership for Learning Network, so began discussions with the people associated with The Schools Co-operative Society.

Whilst there is a growing body of research about co-operative schools, not much of it is concerned with leadership for learning, so we secured a British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant to investigate Leadership in Co-operative Schools. Our research with a cluster of Co-operative Trust schools is ongoing, and has been reported at the BELMAS 2015 and ICSEI 2016 conferences, and will lead to future publications.
