PGCE Secondary

Secondary PGCE will normally have 50% of their degree study in the subject they wish to teach

Our courses prepare graduates to teach across the 11-19 age range. Please refer to the list on the right to explore individual courses.

There are 3 integrated aspects to our secondary courses:

  • Subject teaching: focusing on the curriculum, principles and practice of teaching your subject
  • Professional studies: the professional role of the teacher and aspects of teaching which are relevant to the whole school
  • Professional placement: 24 weeks spread across 3 terms. Trainees are placed in at least 2 contrasting secondary schools, gradually taking on more responsibility for class teaching as the year progresses

Many subject courses gained the highest possible grades from recent OFSTED inspections (Grade 1: very good with many outstanding features). Visit the OFSTED reports for our courses and the Training and Development Agency for Schools performance profiles for our secondary courses.
