Seminar with Dr Jacqueline Kennelly

Jacqueline Kennelly recently completed her SSHRC and Killam funded PhD at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Educational Studies in Vancouver, Canada. Her research examines the intersections between youth cultures, globalization and neoliberalism, social exclusion, and social movements. She currently holds a SSHRC post-doctoral fellowship in the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge, where she is examining the impacts of the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympics on low-income young people.

Conversations with Professor Sheelagh Drudy, University College, Dublin

Professor Drudy's particular area of expertise is the sociology of education. She lectures and examines cross courses in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at University College, Dublin. Her publications include books and papers on the influence of social class, gender and disability on educational participation and achievement.

Education and Development Workshops

During the academic year, Education, Equality and Development Academic Group will host a series of workshops on Education and Development. These will explore the range of theoretical and methodological frameworks used to research education in developing contexts, drawing especially on fieldwork experiences of staff and postgraduates. Colleagues, students and teachers are most welcome to attend.

Postmodernism, Postcolonialism and Education Reading Group

This reading group meets three times a term to discuss and learn about postcolonial theory. We engage with the potential contribution of postcolonial theory as a critical lens from which to analyse teaching, research, and education systems in our globalising world.

The EED group is a recognized host for the Egalitarian World Initiative, based in the Centre for Social Justice, at University College Dublin, funded by EC Marie Curie Partnerships Programme. Professor Kathleen Lynch visited from October to December 2006 and held three 'Conversations' about effective citizenship, empowerment and liberal democracy.
